Alias
A descriptive, meaningful and SEO-friendly
URL name which maximizes your Web site’s placement in search results.
Approval Chain
A system in Ektron that lets you control how and when your Web site is updated.
Breadcrumb
A breadcrumb is a display of the trail a site visitor took to arrive at a Web page.

Change Request Forms
A form that helps Marketing to establish a workflow to efficiently complete a business unit need as quickly as possible. The fields in a request form are designed to be tracked and updated easier than email communication.
Content Management System (CMS)
In a CMS, content can be defined as nearly anything - documents, movies, pictures, phone numbers, text, etc. CMSs are frequently used for storing, controlling, revising, semantically enriching, and publishing content.
Collection
Content items from multiple folders that are displayed in a single area. Examples on Kaplan Web sites are footers and Marketing buckets.
Content
Content refers to anything that is going to be displayed on your Web site. In the Ektron CMS would be an image, document, paragraphs of text, or the like that can be individually assigned its own reference id, allowing a user to organize and define properties for that piece of content.
Content Area
A specific area on a Web site where similar pieces of content are displayed. (See example)
Content Collection
A collection is a list of content links offered to readers of a Web page.
Content Scheduling
Scheduling lets you control when a version of content becomes visible on the Web site.
Content Types
There are 2 types of content in Ektron -
- Web Content: HTML, XML
- Managed Content: Office Documents, PDF files, Images, or Multimedia files
Content Version History
Process of comparing two or more versions of a piece of content.
Document Management System (DMS)
Dynamic Web Page
Web page that is regularly updated for a user as content is added to the site. In Marketing's case, an example is content that is created, updated or added through the Ektron Content Management System.
Ektron
Content Management System that runs Kaplan Marketing Web sites.
Footer
Group of links that display at the bottom of every page in a Web site.
Global Hyperlink
Frequently used hyperlink in Ektron that business units can use in their Web pages. When this link is updated, it is updated everywhere that link is used the Web site. Examples are a. link to a contact form b. link to a home page.
Herospace
Name for the banner image area under the global navigation on all Kaplan Web sites. Holds either static images or flash content.
Hyperlink
Link to another piece of content or another web page (internal or external) on a Web site.
Legal Footer
Area at the very bottom of every Kaplan Marketing Web site which holds the copyright date and site name.
Library
Repository in Ektron that stores images, files, quicklinks, and hyperlinks. Library elements can then be organized in folders and those folders can be assigned privileges. For example, a user may be assigned to use a library folder related to their business unit, but not visible to another user who should not use the contents of that folder.
Library Folder
Stores images, files, quicklinks, and hyperlinks that can be inserted into editor content.
List Summary
Stores images, files, quicklinks, and hyperlinks that can be inserted into editor content.
Marketing Bucket
Kaplan term which is the name for the area on a website dedicated to display promotional material. The location for the marketing buckets is consistent on all Web sites.
Masthead
Persistent element that usually includes the company logo and contact CTA on the top of every Web site.
Menu
In Ektron, refers to web site navigation that a user can add or remove links to other pages or pieces of content on a Web site.
Metadata
Metadata is information about a content item, such as its title and language. This information can be used for search engines, for example, to help others find that piece of content.
Naming Convention
A set of rules implemented to achieve the maximum usability for others who will be using or viewing the named element. Naming conventions can be applied for URLs, images, and hyperlinks, for example.
Privileges
In Ektron, access that is given to a user to help them focus on the areas they will be using, and removing access to areas that are not needed. This helps a user to learn a new system and introduce new features over time.
Quicklink
A link to a folder that holds templates (for look and feel) but content stays the same.
Smart Form
A form created in Ektron to make it easy for a user to create or update a piece of content in a Web site.
Static Web Page
A web page that is not created with elements that can be updated through a content management system. The changes must be manually updated or changed in the code of the Web page.
Summary
A short description of a piece of content to supplement the title when a list of content items appear on a Web page. You create a summary when creating or editing content.
Task
A request from one user to another to perform an action within Ektron.
Taxonomy
Template
Templates contain the look and feel of the site. Masthead, navigation, and footer graphics are all part of the template.
URL
Unique name for a Web page or a piece of content on the internet.
Web Site
A collection of related Web pages, images, videos or other digital assets that are addressed relative to a common URL. It is usually given a domain name to find these files on the internet. It is hosted on at least one Web server, accessible via a network such as the Internet or a private local area network.
